What is Deanery Synod?

Bromley Deanery Synod is the statutory body which makes decisions for the churches of Bromley in the Diocese of Rochester (Church of England).
The Deanery Synod consists of lay representatives of each church in the Deanery (elected every three years) plus all licensed clergy in the Deanery area. Meetings of Synod are chaired by the Area Dean and the elected Lay Chair, supported by a Standing Committee.
Deanery Synods (of which there are 18 in our Diocese) act as intermediaries between the church councils of each parish and the synod of the whole Diocese. Its lay members also elect representatives to Rochester Diocesan Synod and the General Synod of the Church of England.
